Hilary + Juan’s colorful spring wedding took place at the La Jolla Women’s Club. It turned out to be a perfect day, and such a great group of people to work with! The two met while at law school at their Barrister’s Ball (aka law school prom). The proposal took place on the weekend of August 18, 2013 (Hilary’s birthday weekend). On Monday night, August 19th, after the excitement died down, Juan took her out to dinner at Prep Kitchen in Little Italy to celebrate their anniversary. During dinner, Juan had to leave and go back to his car because he thought he left his wallet there. Little did Hilary know, Juan had taken Hilary’s camera and gone to the car to give the camera to his friend (and now groomsman) Kent to help capture his proposal.
Juan returned to dinner and they headed home. However, once they left Prep Kitchen, his car started having problems. This was relatively fortuitous and only semi-planned – it gave Juan a good excuse to take a walk but at the same time his car legitimately had some serious issues which later necessitated a new car.
Juan pulled into the San Diego Harbor and parked and suggested they go for a walk in hopes that the car would later magically repair itself and start. They passed the Hornblower cruise liner, where they first met at the Barrister’s Ball. They were walking past the USS Midway when their friend August appeared and started playing the song Amazed by Lone Star. They were suddenly surrounded by a group of their closest friends and Juan got down on one knee, told Hilary he loved her and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. She of course, said yes.
